Designing outdoor spaces that invite connection and calm.
A project to transform the arrival and outdoor areas of the Rochester Hotel. From a welcoming landscaped entrance to a redesigned pool deck overlooking Lake Nahuel Huapi, the design blended hospitality with nature, creating spaces that invite guests to pause, connect, and stay longer.

THE WORK IN PROGRESS
Creative Process
-
What was the challenge?
The Rochester Hotel, located in Bariloche with privileged views of the Nahuel Huapi Lake, sought to rethink its outdoor and arrival areas to enhance the guest experience.
The challenge was twofold:To redesign the entrance sequence (parking and exterior hall) so that the welcome felt warm and memorable.
To reimagine the deck around the pool, turning it into a place that invited guests to stay, relax, and enjoy the panoramic lake views.
-
What was the idea?
The concept was to design spaces where nature and hospitality could merge seamlessly.
At the entrance, the strategy was to create a sense of arrival that balanced functionality (parking and flow) with a welcoming, landscaped hall.
At the pool deck, the goal was to build a contemplative atmosphere: an outdoor living area that extended the hotel’s interior comfort into the landscape.
The vision was to integrate native vegetation, sustainable design practices, and carefully framed views, so that every moment — from check-in to relaxation — felt enriched by the environment.
-
The project went through a complete design process, including:
Needs assessment and ideation with the client.
Design proposals and planting plan.
Supplier research and budget development.
On-site surveys with hotel staff to analyze feasibility and local execution.
Collaboration with an architect (who later carried out the execution and follow-up of the second stage).
Supervision of deck construction implementation.
Special attention was given to:
Selection of native species to strengthen the sense of place and reduce maintenance.
Design of circulation flows to create a welcoming hall from the parking lot.
Integration of wood and natural textures in the deck, enhancing connection with the lake views.
-
What was achieved?
The Rochester Hotel gained a renewed identity at its entrance, offering guests a smoother, greener, and warmer arrival.
The redesigned pool deck transformed into a signature space, encouraging guests to linger, rest, and connect with the landscape.
The collaborative process with the architect and local staff ensured not only design innovation but also practical execution.
Ultimately, the project elevated the hotel’s positioning by reinforcing its relationship with nature and offering visitors a more memorable hospitality experience in Bariloche.
