Creative Process

  • What was the challenge?

Hydra is a serene, car-free Greek island celebrated for its stone architecture, artistic heritage, and tranquil atmosphere. At its heart, the Windmill Bar—a restored historic windmill immortalized in the 1957 film Boy on a Dolphin—is known as one of the island’s most iconic sunset vantage points.

For this project, the challenge was to capture the multifaceted essence of the Sunset Session:

    • A five-hour live DJ set by Nick Varon, merging music with the natural rhythm of the sunset.

    • A crowd of guests in constant motion, requiring agility to document both intimate moments and the collective energy.

    • Sponsor visibility (Martin Miller, Fever Tree) woven seamlessly into the narrative, without overshadowing the authenticity of the experience.

    • A sophisticated visual archive that balanced spontaneity with brand-level polish, serving both the event and Windmill Bar’s long-term communication needs.

The result demanded precision: covering people, music, environment, and brands—while ensuring every element felt curated, organic, and aligned with the bar’s elegant identity.

  • What was the idea?

The assignment was to provide not merely documentation but a photographic narrative that captured the moment, the music, and the magic of a sunset that transitioned into an electric night.

    • Highlight the unique reputation of Windmill Bar as a cinematic sunset destination within Hydra’s cultural landscape.

    • Showcase DJ Nick Varon’s five-and-a-half-hour live set, merging deep electronic grooves with the slow cadence of sunset and island warmth.

    • Ensure sponsors—Martin Miller, Fever Tree, Le—were featured consistently but tastefully, aligning with the event’s aesthetic.

    • Provide material for Windmill Bar’s ongoing communications, including website galleries and year-round social media storytelling.

  • How was it executed?

    Pre-Event Planning:

    • Aligned with sponsors and bar management to define coverage expectations: branding integration, live DJ highlights, crowd atmosphere, and iconic sunset panorama.

    • Developed an editing brief keyed to Windmill Bar’s Instagram aesthetics—warm tones, cinematic framing, and elegant minimalism.

    Event Coverage:

    • Captured dynamic moments: the evolving sunset, DJ in action, guests dancing against dusk, ambient bar lighting, and branded lounge areas.

    • Focused on an emotional arc: twilight’s glow → immersive music → nightfall dancing.

    Post-Production:

    • Photographs were curated and color-graded to maintain visual coherence with Windmill Bar’s digital identity.

    • Delivered a year-round photo archive for ongoing brand storytelling: seasonal event promotions, “Flashback” posts, mood branding, and media kits.

  • What was achieved?

    • Produced a powerful visual story elevating Windmill Bar’s brand as an iconic venue for musical sunsets and social connection.

    • Created a stock library of highly curated images—versatile, evocative, and ready for promotional use throughout the year.

    • Highlighted the synergy between place (Windmill Bar), music (Nick Varon), and patron experience, planting the bar firmly in Hydra’s cultural map.

    • Enabled sponsor visibility within an experiential narrative that felt organic and luxurious.
